SCLEROTHERAPY:
Effective Varicose & Spider Vein Treatment in Burlington

If you are seeking a proven, minimally-invasive solution for unsightly varicose veins and spider veins, Sclerotherapy is the gold standard treatment. At Luna Med Spa in Burlington, our certified Registered Nurses and medical staff specialize in administering this procedure with precision and safety. Sclerotherapy works by injecting a gentle solution directly into the problematic vein, causing it to collapse and fade, restoring smooth, clear skin with minimal downtime.
How Sclerotherapy Works: The Gold Standard for Vein Treatment
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a sclerosing agent (typically a saline or detergent-based solution) directly into the targeted veins.
Targeted Action and Process
The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel (the endothelium), causing the vein walls to swell and seal shut. The treated vein is then naturally absorbed by the body, and blood flow is redirected to healthier veins nearby. The procedure is quick, typically lasting only 15 to 45 minutes, and performed right here in our Burlington clinic.
Addressing Varicose vs. Spider Veins
-
Spider Veins (Telangiectasias): Smaller veins closer to the skin surface, often treated primarily for cosmetic reasons.
-
Varicose Veins: Larger, often bulging veins that may cause symptoms like aching, throbbing, or heaviness, requiring more focused medical attention.

Safety and Expertise at Luna Med Spa
Sclerotherapy is highly effective, but it requires precision and comprehensive vascular knowledge to be performed safely and correctly. At Luna Med Spa, your health and safety are our primary focus. We adhere to the highest clinical standards to ensure optimal results and minimal risk.
Performed by Certified Medical Professionals
Your Sclerotherapy treatment is exclusively administered by our Registered Nurse Injectors who possess specialized training in vascular anatomy and sclerosing techniques. We do not compromise on safety or expertise. Before any treatment, a thorough medical consultation and screening are performed to confirm that Sclerotherapy is the appropriate and safest treatment for your specific type of spider or varicose veins, ruling out any underlying conditions that may require specialist referral.
Utilizing High-Grade Sclerosing Agents
We use only Health Canada-approved sclerosing solutions at concentrations customized to the size and depth of the targeted veins. Whether treating fine spider veins or larger, reticular veins, this tailored approach ensures the highest rate of success while minimizing the risk of side effects like hyperpigmentation or skin irritation.

Post-Treatment Care and Expected Results
Understanding the aftercare and timeline is essential for the success of your Sclerotherapy treatment. We provide detailed, personalized instructions to ensure the treated veins remain closed and the best aesthetic outcomes are achieved.
The Critical Role of Compression Therapy
Immediately following your procedure, you will be required to wear medical-grade compression stockings (typically 20–30 mmHg). Compression is not optional—it is vital to the success of Sclerotherapy. It helps keep the collapsed veins closed, prevents blood from re-entering, minimizes bruising and swelling, and significantly improves the long-term efficacy of the treatment. Your nurse will advise you on the duration of wear, which is typically daily for up to two weeks. We offer medical grade compression products at our clinic.
Recovery Guidelines and Activity
Most patients experience minimal downtime and can return to normal daily activities immediately. Walking is highly encouraged after treatment to promote healthy circulation and prevent blood clot formation. However, you must avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, saunas, hot tubs, and direct sun exposure on the treated area for a specified period (usually 7-14 days) as this can dilate the veins and negatively affect the result.
Timeline for Fading
Treated veins do not disappear instantly. You may see some initial bruising, redness, or temporary discoloration (hyperpigmentation).
-
Spider Veins: Typically begin to fade and clear within 3 to 6 weeks.
-
Larger Varicose Veins: May take 3 to 4 months to fully resolve.
Most clients require two to three sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve 80–100% clearance of visible veins. We will schedule a follow-up appointment to assess your progress and plan any necessary additional sessions.
